Fronton (pelota court) (Z·M colec.) Pelota is the only sport that unites both farming and city-dwelling Basque citizens. Although initially of foreign origin, by the 18th century it was hugely popular in the Basque Country, and in the 19th century, the Basques invented their own version that was played against a wall, a version that has since spread all over the world.
